Alyosha watched as the missile tore the fighter into ribbons effortlessly despite the hostile's attempts to dodge, he violently rolled out of the way of the debris field to avoid any possible FOI.

"Matchstick, scratch one JF-17. Nothing but dust and echoes now! Coming back to help out now."

"Excellent kill Aly! Pack, we still have bandits, give Shogun support." Zack called.

Comet in the meantime watched as her missile damaged the SRAF Thunder but didn't bring it down as she intended it to, hissing a low "Dammit!" under her breath as the busty Aslani rolled her fighter over and gave pursuit of the enemy aircraft headed for Mark who was now trying to get to a firing solution on the Navy jet.

Mao who had broke right now ran parallel to Comet as Aly raced over to join Ferret in taking out the other JF-17. Mao had two Sidewinders ready to launch and decided to take the initiative, bringing her JMCS on to the hostile in her field of view, making sure not to hit Rein or any other friendlies.

"Hime Fox Two!" Mao shouted as the missile zipped off the rail, seeker locked to the Thunder's heat signature.

Comet kept her last AIM-9 in reserve, in case Mao had failed to kill it also keeping in mind she had a full load of 20mm for use. In the meantime Ferret had circled back in on the JF-17 that had challenged them to the front, the fighter coming into his weapons range while Alyosha flanked from the left.

"Ferret, Fox Two!" Zack called, lock tone growling in his inner ear.

"Bandit down! Moving to assist Sunny lead" Rosie called after dispatching the first fighter.

"Roger, we'll take care of this guy, you help 1!" Dusty replied. Dusty and Bait began to finish their turns to rapidly get on the tails of the lone Typhoon.

Rosie blew past the debris of her kill and headed towards her lead and the enemy ace locked in combat.

    This guy is persistent!

Sunny groused internally as the G's from the dive wore off, he saw the enemy Typhoon once again diving on him. Turning hard into the attacking fighter, Sunny wondered if he would ever be able to get a shot in.

Irenee and Estelle's respective Mirages broke formation from Magalie and Willard's and took on an enemy Mirage. With her flight lead watching her back, Estelle gets a good tone on her headset and fires a MICA IR.

    "Moineau, Fox Two!"

    ======

Meanwhile, Magalie and Willard scan the skies for any enemy Mirages of their own. Suddenly two show up at their twelve o'clock. Magalie and Willard prepare to enter a merge with their opponents.

The Mirage pulled up to meet Sharky as he came around, narrowly avoiding the burst of gunfire. The pilot then turned right and into the F-14's attack for its own shot. He ordered his wingman, damaged by Viper, to do the same. The lead Shamlaki pilot then snapped back towards Showtime and fired one of his Magics as he kept turning to avoid more of the lead Basilik's wrath. The other jet, flown by a rather novice pilot, tried to dive and bug out.

The Mirages challenging Broadsword split and deployed chaff. One turned towards Riley while the other went vertical, more chaff falling behind it. As it was about to nose over and attack Foxhound, Hannibal's AMRAAM impacted the tail section of the jet, breaking apart the aircraft. In the meantime his lead, unfazed and looking to go one-on-one with the leader of the Marine flight, came at Riley from three o' clock low and fire a Magic.

The only way to differentiate the two parties of Mirages was paint schemes. Estelle's target broke into the attack, going above her and then rolling down, employing its two DEFA cannons in retort to her missile. The two Mirages facing Magalie and Willard took advantage of the head-on and drew first, each salvoing their two Magics in a move similar to the early days of air warfare over Songola.

In the meantime Mark became aware of the JF-17 looking to nab him, and let his AIM-9 go on its own to kill the F-16 he'd fired it at. He yanked the stick back and left, trailing flares as a single PL-8 was sent after him The pilot rolled while he broke right, but the pilot in the jet was smarter than the missile. Mark felt a concussion somewhere behind as the weapon explode but kept his mind on the enemy fighter as it tore after him. He reversed and whipped his his head around, trying to keep alive long enough so that whoever...Comet, the jet had to be Comet's with the calls he was hearing. Come on, gal, kill the sucker! He thought. He looked away to worry about staying light on his feet as Mao arrived to take the shot. He heard the call, though. The JF-17 reversed, now outnumbered despite one of its opponents on the run, and broke right. It took the Sidewinder dead center.

Eric brought 1-4 and 1-3 with him in a slashing attack against the F-16Fs harassing a company of Bradleys while they maneuvered against Shamlaki field artillery. Hitting the strikers while they were busy firing, so busy their own survival seemed below killing elements of the Osean 3rd Infantry. Maybe one or two broke and deployed countermeasures while the others took the missiles without protest. Eric pulled up and away from them as he watched his latest kills sail down and made a climbing turn to search for more action.

The Thunder Zack was facing, meanwhile, saw Aly and snapped towards him as he was fired on. setting off flares, he then dove and began what looked like a Split-S until the Sidewinder exploded behind it, sending it into a perfectly vertical dive.

Last but certainly not least was the duel between Al-Saddi, Sunny, and their respective subordinates. However numbers were leaning towards VF-3 by this point. The remaining Typhoon that Al-Saddi had sent to ward off Sunny's flight was now screaming downwards, though he had no terrain to maneuver through or use to evade. His only real hope was the fading chance he'd fly past a Crotale or some men with a Mistral on them, maybe a Guntank. In the meantime Sunny's wish for a shot was about to come true as Rosie approached.

Al-Saddi saw her as he dove and made a small tangent. Carfeully managing his plane, he snapped towards her and armed his cannon. Rolling and attacking from eleven high, he'd make a single, accurate pass and then finish off the flight lead of VF-3. The maneuver would ideal take seconds to complete. If he remained quick, he wouldn't be vulnerable to Sunny for long.

Sharky saw the Magic streak from beneath the Mirage's wing.  "Two break left heater!"

"Shit!"  Showtime promptly dumped flares and broke hard left, giving the Magic a juicy target that was NOT his glowing tailpipes.  As he braced against the G's, Millie grunted, "What is it with us and Eurocrap?"

    "I don't fucking know!"

Meanwhile Sharky remained on the Mirage, thoroughly annoyed with the Shamlaki.  Using the Tomcat's superior AoA abilities, he pulled the nose ahead of the Mirage's flight path to fire another burst of guns before switching to Sidewinders.  Cuing the missile's seeker to his HMD, he waited for the high pitched growl before firing his last AIM-9X.  "Sharky, Fox Two!"  As the missile streaked off the rail, Sharky rolled inverted and pulled the big fighter into a dive to regain the energy he had lost from his maneuver.

Viper saw the rookie Mirage attempt to bug out, but the Basilisks were to show no quarter this day.  "Red, I'm out of position!  Nail that bastard!"

"Gladly.  Ven aqui, pendejo..."  Red dived after the escaping Mirage, waiting until the pipper of the gun sight intersected the jet's triangular airframe before triggering the cannon.

Slamming the stick into a tight right hand turn, Riley and Hacker were presses hard against their seats. Pumping out flares, Riley used the supreme alpha of the Hornet to slide around to the Mirages 9 o' clock. Uncaging his Sidewinders, he let the AIM-9X track the Mirages tailpipe. Getting a good tone, he fired the first of his Sidewinders.

Seeing the predicament his lover is in, Irenee started latching onto the enemy Mirage's six o'clock, his teeth have sunk in and wasn't letting go. He gets a solid tone for his MICA IRs and fires one.

    "Faucon! Fox Two!"

While this was happening, Magalie and Willard broke formation, dumping flares, and generating good angles to lose the Magics.

Ferret and Alyosha looked on as the JF-17 careened towards the ground, it's entire aft section in flames from Zack's Sidewinder successfully making it's mark. The pair looped back around and headed back in the direction of Hime and Comet who broke away from a violently exploding JF-17 that had been hit dead center by Hime's own missile.

"Hime here, confirmed kill on a Thunder! Repeat kill on a Thunder. Rein, form on me."

"Wilco, forming on your wing. We're far from done here."

    "Well aware Comet, lead. Status."

"Ferret to Hime and Comet, regrouping on your position now. Scrubbed a Thunder. Looking for action."

    "Hime, Roger."

Zack quickly flipped channels to get in contact with the Thunderhawk pilots who were presently engaged with hostiles.

    "Canis lead to Shogun, status."

Dusty watched the lone remaining Typhoon fleeing down low as he leveled out from his turn. Mulling over the issue for a moment, Dusty decided to decline.

"Sunny Three to Four form up"

"We're not going after the guy?" Bait said rather surprised.

"Nah he's heading home with his tail between his legs, besides the flight is already strung out enough as it is."

Rosie noticed the enemy fighter almost a second too late, and did her best to turn into her attacker. It may not have been enough.

Sunny leveled out, lower than he was particularly comfortable with and immediately began to look around to put eyes on the enemy Ace.

The Mirage Sharky had targeted pulled  away from the tracers coming at him to avoid them, but in the process exposed his tailpipe even more to the follow-on attack from the Sidewinder. In the sudden complication of things, the Mirage pilot tried to reverse, but he'd lost precious distance from the AIM-9. The warhead's detonation messed up the single tailpipe enough to send the fighter into a mortal dive. Red, in the meantime, traced a solid line along the left wing of the Mirage 2000. The jet began to wobble from side to side, but kept forward, almost like it was going kamikaze at something. The pilot inside was so determined to get home, he wasn't realizing his plane was now ready to lose a wing.

The Mirage Broadsword 1 attacked broke hard into the attack and scattered flares. The piolot kept up the turn, staying out of afterburner to avoid providing a better target, and then rolled under the Hornet, screaming towards the desert floor and soon, relative safety. It screamed southwards, towards less contested airspace where it could hope to find protection in the envelopes of ground-based, friendly AAA.

The Mirage dove just behind the target it'd tried to gun. As Irenee fired on it, the pilot pulled out of his dive and deployed flares, making a wide circle to gain some distance and get an angle on the Emmerian. Estelle's tail was clear, though, save for a few "bruises" from the DEFA run. For Willard and Magalie, their maneuvers meant the two RSAF could get their own angles on the REAF fighters. The pair came above the evading coalition jets, split, and targeted each for a single DEFA run from above.

Al-Saddi stuck to his plan until Rosie maneuvered. He avoided following her, maneuvering, or at least trying to maneuver, back towards Sunny. The pilot tensed; things were falling apart very quickly...

"Canis, Shogun, we ambushed some Strike Falcons while they were getting off shots. Most of em appear to be bugging out and heading south." Eric called. He'd actually been on the verge of asking the Air Force pilot or Mark if there was any action to be had, but things appeared to be settling in the air.

On the ground they were still far from done. Cassin's platoon had gotten bogged down near one of the many "roads" (in actuality paths traveled so many times the tracks of vehicles remained their year-round) As one of their tanks had encountered a mechanical problem. He had his unit splayed around the disabled tank. A group of Shamlaki 99s had apparently decided to use this time to press an attack.  The first indication came when his number three tank suffered a hit to the left track, bringing the disabled count up to two.

"Gunner identify! multiple ZTZ-99s to our front!" Kolby shouted.

"Engage with sabot! SABOT!" Cassin barked.

The crew got to work as the exchange of rounds started. Cassin keyed his mike almost immediately after the shooting started. He was aware the nearest Bradley company had taken a beating form Shamlaki fast air, and that the Apaches were trying to soften up the rest of the Shamlaki formation further ahead. Come on, Callie, don't fail me now...

"Panther 2-2, this is 2-3. I need assistance, can you help?"

The pause felt too long, almost.

"Roger that, Panther 2-2 is coming from the left flank to support."

Austin, despite better wisdom, rode into this one halfway out of the turret as his tanks shifted right to attack what was determined to be three platoons of ZTZs. He peered through his binoculars as steadily as he could, watching for their targets.

"Commander identify! ZTZ at our 11!" he shouted, spotting the shape of the Verusean-built MBT in the distance. His gunner ranged the machine, they got a little closer, and then the shot was made in more favorable conditions.

"Panther 2-3, retreat if yah can; We'll get em." Austin ordered as they sent another round into the tank, and then targeted another.

"Negative, we're unable to. Got two tracks down." Cassin replied grimly. Shit, Austin thought.

"Alright then, engage what yah can, help us soften em up." He radioed.

Sharky watched the Mirage spiral to earth before radioing, "Two, your tail's clear."

    "Thanks, boss."

Meanwhile Red was fully engaged in his pursuit of the retreating Mirage.  "No no no senor, you don't get to run away from me."  Pressing the attack, he triggered off another burst of guns.

Estelle turned into her opponent in an effort to save her lover, she gets a good lead and fires her DEFA cannons.

Magalie and Willard broke into the enemy Mirages' cannon run. They latch onto their opponents with the intention of not letting the enemy Mirages get away.

Rosie, in the G-induced haze, missed the Typhoon moving in the opposite direction. She assumed he was still targeting her, and continued her turn before leveling off.

"Sunny 2 to 1, engaged defensive. Where are you lead?" Rosie called over the radio to her flight lead.

Sunny heard the call and began to climb, searching for his erstwhile opposite and wayward wingman visually and by radar.

"Two, I'm about a mile south of you and coming your way. That Typhoon is dangerous, watch yourself."

Riley Rolled the Hornet and pulled down, accelerating toward the Mirage. He closed rapidly, lining up a second Sidewinder. He got good tone and fired.

"Fox two!" he called, "Three, get him if he evades!"

    "Roger!"

Meanwhile, Broadsword Four had found the MLRS battery, and he and Two began their bombing runs. Having punched in the precise coordinates, they dropped two CBU-103s each. These split into innumerable smaller ones, and plowed towards the rocket launchers.

With the skies relatively clear for now, Zack swung his fighter back around, climbing while the rest of his flight kept to his tail. The quartet of single engine fighters established a CAP once more, keeping their eyes on the skies and their radar screens.

"Canis Lead to Bakal, request radar picture." Ferret called to the A-50 providing overwatch.

The Mirage running from the Merc couldn't maneuver, lest he lose the wing. Instead he decided to do the only thing he could think to do, and eject. As Red killed an empty jet, the pilot was left to float to earth and what he could hope was rescue soon. His fighter sailed onwards, slowly falling apart.

Eagle's fight had become a mix of tracers crossing left and right, barely lighting the aircraft in the night sky. Magalie and Willard's targets took rounds, but they passed by the Emmerians from above and dove for the ground before breaking apart and trying to split. Estelle and Irene were finding that numbers were turning in their favor, as despite the Miarge's ability to dodge each attack as it came, he was not able to get any solid hits on the REAF Mirages attacking him.

In the meantime as the Mirage Broadsword was cornering was running, a rear-ecehleon Chemole battery picked up the engagement. The radars, yet to be properly sniped, began tracking the intruding aircraft for missile shots. They fired in rapid succession, unable to save the Mirage from being badly damaged by Riley but able to give it cover. Obviously they couldn't do anything for the rocket trucks, however, which fell without fanfare to the CBUs.

Al-Saddi decided to take down Rosie first. She was the closest at hand and thus the most dangerous. He lead the F-21 from his position and fired his cannon at her jet's projected path of travel, slowing himself to get more time to fire in.

Shogun followed Canis's move to reestablish CAP, deploying into two seperate pairs to cover the maximum airspace they could. Eric directed them to face south, where more RSAF aircraft were expected to come from. In the meantime he listened for the A-50 to report any new contacts. It was actually a relief to hear that the space was clearing up and any remaining Shamlakis were engaged with other UN jets already.

On the ground, Cassin wanted to get his CROWS running as he sat there, trying to keep the two downed tracks covered. Austin was going hellbent for leather on this one, coming at the ZTZs like a maniac with a knife. The attack had been broken, but there was still the chance they could be...

"GUNNER IDENTIFY, MBT 12 O'CLOCK! HE'S LOOKING AT US!" Kolby shouted.

    ...Oh shit.

As the Mirage fell to earth in pieces, Red and Viper broke off to rejoin Sharky and Showtime.  "He's down, boss."

"Well done, Red.  I'm Winchester heater, so let's say we get us some space, yeah?"

    "Roger that."

The four Basilisk F-14s joined up and set up a holding pattern.  Shamu radioed, "Bakal, Basilisk is shotgun air to air, but we've still got some toys to go air to mud.  Give us tasking if you've got it."

Riley slammed the stick into his stomach and began to trail chaff. He reversed his roll, then dove in a tight turn.

"Broadsword 1 is defensive!" calld Riley

The AN/ALE-55 towed decoy behind selected the optimal jamming signal, and began to replicate the F/A-18s RCS, hoping to lure the missile into destroying it.Foxhound spotted the launch area, and had the WSO dial in the coordinates. Flying past Riley, he pickled off a CBU.

Rosie noticed the Typhoon firing too late, and felt multiple cannon rounds punch into hammer her T-Hawk. . .  and for a split second herself before things went dark.

Sunny noticed the sudden silence and called for his errant wing woman.

    "Sunny 2, respond!"

Once again no answer and a cold pit of dread settled in him and he began to fear the worst. He bit his lip thinking of events eight years ago.

    Damn it. . . not again. . .

"Basilisk, Bakal, we've got one final target for you. The JSTARS has located a large formation of enemy armor, mainly IFVs and tanks, in the path of the 32nd Guards. You, as well as Twisting Flight, Longsword Flight, and Lemnir Flight are cleared to attack them. Thin out what you can and disengage when you are no longer able to fight." the A-50 radioed, referencing a report from the E-8.

On the ground, though with only scattered AAA cover in the form of Type 87s, Mistrals, and Crotales, the aforementioned formation had organized itself and was making contact with the forward-most units in the Yuktobanian spearhead. The battle started when two platoons of T-90s pressing through a wadi came into contact with Shamlaki scout units. The Shamlakis, close to several ZTZ-99s, got the word out and then ran as the Yuktobanian MBTs laid siege to their withdraw. The Shamlaki MBTs soon arrived, changing the contest into a duel of heavy guns yet again. In addition to the Osea A-10s, F-15Es, and Yuke Su-25s attacking, Msta batteries laid into the ecehleons of troops further back to stem the tide.

In the meantime, the Shamlakis were unaware that the Emmerians they were facing were trying to run, at least at first. After Estelle had taken down one, and then Willard and Magalie their own, it opened up enough time for them to flee before the last RSAF Mirage could get an idea what was going on. Fresh from avoiding Irene's attack, he climbed to dive at them, but his radar revealed an unsettling surprise. Six YAF Flankers were coming to take over CAP. The Mirage turned to run, two of the Su-35s moving to pursue him.

"Eagle, this is Voshkod Flight, withdraw as fast as you can. We will cover you." a voice radioed to the REAF planes.

The maneuver worked in Riley's favor for the time being; Foxhound's attack destroyed the guidance for the SAMs, making them no smarter than SCUDs. The Mirage took advantage of the chaos to continue its run for safety, running as fast as it could from the reach of Broadsword lead's AMRAAM envelope almost recklessly.

Al-Saddi passed by Rosie's F-21, believing he'd properly knocked out the aircraft. Without hesitation he reversed hard left to come at Sunny and destroy him. Finally, the ace of VF-3 is mine...come forth and meet the sword, invader. The pilot armed his cannon for this one; he wanted to reap the satisfaction.

Kolby neglected to say "On the way"; it didn't matter. As the round form the ZTZ-99 scrapped the side of Cassin's M1, he couldn't hear much. The main gun rocked as the gunner sent a response in kind to the offending Shamlaki. The loader went as fast as he could to get a second round in the gun. Kolby sent it as soon as it was ready.

    "Callie?!" the platoon leader shouted.

"I've cut the little shits off! Hold on!"

"I can't hold on much longer, move faster!"

The openness of the terrain allowed Cassin to see almost everything that was going on. Austin's platoon had broken the Shamlakis' flank and was quickly toppling the attack. He spotted a few sand dunes and ordered the tank towards them, and safety. In the meantime Austin finished the attack while his sister platoon limped into a defensible position. He maneuvered his position to go forward of them and cover the group while the REMFs came up. A check of the map showed they were close to the phase line. Close enough, Austin reasoned.

Hearing the YAF Flankers on the radio, Irenee replied, "Roger."

As the four Mirages formed up, Irenee informed the AWACS, "Bakal, Eagle flight is approaching bingo fuel and is Winchester at this time. Requesting permission to tank and RTB."

Shamu's lips curled upward in a smile.  "Roger that, Bakal.  We're on the way."

    "Carpet time, boss?"

    "Carpet time, Millie."

    "I LOVE carpet time!"

    "Your lazy ass would, Red."

Before Red could retort, Sharky cut them off.  "Alright, children.  Brimstone first, then cluster."

    "Two."

    "Three."

    "Four."

With the coordinates from the JSTARS input to their targeting systems, the four F-14s moved into position before ripple-firing their Brimstones.  The 24 missiles streaked towards the kill box, seeking out the heavy armor in the formation.

"Brimstones away.  Coming up on bomb release in twenty.  You're in computer pilot."

"Roger that."  Sharky held the F-14 level at 15,000 feet, waiting as the bomb release pipper tracked down the HUD.  When it reached the bottom, he and Shamu felt three slight jolts as the last of their CBU-105s were kicked free of their TERs to fall the four miles to the armored formation.  "Basilisk 1, winchester."

    "Two's out."

    "Three, winchester."

    "Four, winchester."

The PMCs called "Winchester" as the last of their bombs left their racks, Sharky leading back towards the coast.  "Bakal, Basilisk is Winchester and RTB at this time.  Have a nice day, gents."

Behind them, guided by the mechanical brains of the INS, the twelve CBU-105s sailed merrily towards their destination.

Riley continued his turn and fired is last AMRAAM. "Fox 3!" he called.

Rolling out level, Hacker said, "Broadsword flight, weapons check."

"Broadsword 2 has 2 CBU-103s, 4 is same." replied Chart.

    "3 has 3 CBUs."

"Copy, Bakal, this is Broadsword, we have full guns and CBUs ready for tasking." replied Hacker.

Reluctantly Sunny reported his wingwoman's demise to the AWACS.

"Sunny Lead to Bakal, Sunny 2 is down. No chute observed." He said with an waver he couldn't quite surpress.

He could see the ugly black streak marring the sky marking Rosie's shootdown, then just barely noticed a speck near it and growing slowly bigger. It was that Typhoon again

The bastard is coming around for another pass. Not this time, let's see if he remembers all-aspect.

Sunny had barely a chance to fire throughout the whole engagement, so he still had a fair few missiles left over. The distance was too close for a AIM-120, but just enough for a Sidewinder. The chance to avenge Rosie in an intensely personal way energized him.

The two fighters closed at each other at several hundred miles and hour, the distance wound down to near rock throwing range for the AIM-9, Sunny wanting to be extra certain of a hit.

Finally reaching his desired launching point of maybe three or four miles away, Sunny gripped the trigger harder than was possibly necessary and launched an AIM-9.

"Fox, fucking, Two" Sunny swore, mentally crossing his fingers.
