Evading a SAM was all about timing and maneuver, and Sunny's Division had done everything well that moment.

But they were thrown out of position.

Sunny grumbled as he leveled out, Tail coming into trail behind and beside him. Dusty and Bait followed suit farther away than Sunny would have liked.

Sunny would just have to make do.

Tracking the radar that had previously fired on him, the two F-21's launched a HARM each, hoping to at least give the defenses something to worry about.

Eric heard Sunny and Tail call their HARM launches when the second missile passed high. The Kedhanis were already starting to shut down their radars after shooting their weapons as fast as they could, rendering several of the shots at the F-21s useless. Mark's HARM had landed against a radar dish that'd been set up on a building's roof. The SA-20 that'd shot at Eric had his attention, though. He did a little remembering and aimed for the site. At this rate he'd have to do something crazy, and bomb it. He had JDAM, and he started referencing his GPS to program coordinates. To his left tracers started to migrate towards him as the jet passed by, approaching his target. He pulled his hand away from his weapons display and gulped. his path took him towards one of the southern SAM sites that Sunny and Tail had already busted the radars for. Eric noticed bu it was too late. He was screaming at them in full burner.

"Fuck mud moving!" He cursed. The pilot then transmitted the proper call before peeling away.

    "Shogun 208, pickle!"

Mark, in the meantime, could see dots high above another rooftop radar he was targeting. He bit his lower lip but went for the signature for his HARM anyways. Less weight if the J-11s came after him. He made his shot as he started to bank left and up to avoid making a descent into a building.

    "Shogun 205, Magnum."

Mark deployed chaff and went perpendicular to the shapes he had determined were J-11s holding the airspace over the center of the city. He threw glances back over his shoulder at them every few seconds to make sure he was okay and free of attention.

The lead J-11 broke off and snapped hard right and down, trailing chaff and moving fast so it could overload the AMRAAM and go where it couldn't. Unopposed still, his wingman fired a short-range PL-9 at Riley before dipping down and passing underneath him. The flanking aircraft had varying degrees of success. At the close range and high speed, the J-11 Broadswords 2 and 4 had faced was unable to escape damage, but remained aloft, while the one whom 3 had taken on broke left and then snapped right, using chaff to defend itself and make a move to come around and get behind the Marine jet.

The J-11s broke their pairs. The two that'd been coming from above moved to get behind the Emmerian fighters while the other two that'd Flanked moved to box them in. The use of PL-12s had been abandoned in favor of the PL-9.

On the ground the Marines kept up the fire on the building even as the AGMs made impact. The two warheads impacted and threw bits of the target up like a geyser, pushing a cloud of dust outwards at the same time. The Marines, despite being pinned, let out a few howls and the famous phrase "Get some", as they often did to greet welcome events.

"Good impacts Canis, good impacts. Standby for further tasking." the JTAC reported as Marines started to advance on the wounded Marines who'd been stranded.

In the meantime Copperhead had happened upon the target building and gone to work. The lead T-90's commander, who'd popped out of his hatch to catch some fresh air, was surprised to see an Osean AH-1Z appear from behind a building to his right. The menacing gunship popped off a Hellfire despite the crowded cityscape and then peeled away, ascending. The Kedhani soldier could only stare as the others descended. The Oseans were mad, mad!

"Canis, Copperhead, they must have a fucking company of armor down there! Too much for us! Certainly too much for Longrifle!" the lead Viper radioed.

"Copperhead, this is Firebreather, we're pushing up towards the target building from its left flank." came a new voice. Osean Marine M1A2 tanks were pushing to trap the HVTs.

Riley quickly unleashed a second AMRAAM at the lead J-11, letting it go "Pitbull". He rolled the Hornet hard and began to punch off several flares. Rolling up into a high o-yo, he came down behind the second J-11 and fired an AIM-9X at it, followed by another a second after.

Three pushed his attack, firing another AMRAAM and then following after the J-11, staying far enough away as to not get sucked into a turn fight with the maneuverable aircraft.

Hannibal fired another AMRAAM at the damaged J-11, while 4 broke off to cover Riley in case he missed, or the lead J-11 evaded the second AMRAAM.

Noticing that two of the J-11s were attempting to hit them on their flank and rear, Irenee informed, "Heads up, Eagle Flight! They're trying to nail us! Here's what we'll do. Willard and I will hit the ones at our six o'clock using MICA IRs. Two and Four, split off and nail the ones on our flank."

"This is Moineau, we read you." Estelle replied as she and Magalie peeled off and both got a solid tone for a MICA IR missile lock and fire.

    "Moineau, Fox Two!"

    "Vautour, Fox Two!"

Irenee and Willard broke hard left, dumping chaff and flares, and both switched to their MICA IRs, and got a solid tone, they fire.

    "Faucon, Fox Two!"

    "Balbuzard, Fox Two!"

Rather than risk getting the flight strung out, Sunny decided to reform again after seeing the results of the HARM strikes.

Sunny was generally surprised they had hit.

"Pretty good shot if I do say so myself" Tail noted with a little more pride than Sunny thought was necessary.

"Yeah, yeah good shot Top Gun. Keep on my wing, we're getting the flight back together."

The Falcon pilots, having reestablished their orbit over the anarchy down below heard a call from the lead AH-1Z. This time it was hostile tanks rolling in on the embattled Marines position. Rather than let Firebreather and Copperhead deal with the brunt of the armored assault; Ferret once more ordered his planes in for a run.

"Canis lead copies Copperhead. We have the targets in sight and are beginning our runs now." Ferret called to the attack helicopters. The ponytailed pilot then ordered his planes to individually pick targets and thin out the Kedhani ranks.

"Ferret to pack, lase and hit the targets individually on our run. Hime follow me in."

    "This is Hime, wilco lead."

    "Comet copies."

"Loud and clear Bossman. Stake em and bake em!"

Four invisible beams emitted by the SNIPER XR pods carried by the aircraft painted a tank each; giving the pilots the required "lock" they needed to fire a missile at the Yuktobanian made T-90's. With a pull of the trigger; each plane loosed a single Dual Mode Brimstone at their targets.

    "Ferret, Rifle!"

    "Hime, Rifle One!"

    "Comet, Rifle!"

    "Matchstick, Rifle!"

The J-11 fighting Riley reacted, naturally, to the AMRAAM first. The pilot used the proximity of the shot at him to dodge it, breaking left at the best time so the missile wouldn't be able to follow and would end up going ballistic. For a second though, he lost sight of Broadsword's lead jet. The pilot first saw Riley's wingman trying to cut him off, and moved to counter that. He noted Riley when the man had fired his two Sidewinders, catching the Flanker as it was moving to turn into his wingman. That caused the J-11's top to be fully exposed to the heatseekers. The first reached the jet and hit it in the spine as the J-11 tried to maneuver; the second disappeared in the fireball as the pilot ejected.

In the meantime the J-11 facing Broadsword's number three guy used the speed he had to close the gap between them, meeting a negating move with a negative move. The pilot then used the performance the Flanker was often praised for to help in the slow-down to get a good shot with a PL-9. The pilot fired at the top of the AAM's field of view, then used the time that would be bought by the attack to better its position. At the same time Hannibal's AMRAAM found its target.

The fight between Eagle and the bandits who'd challenged it had turned into a ball of chaos as the Mirages split. The J-11s started breaking up their own pairs to avoid being boxed in while close together. they threw out flares and maneuvered delicately in the few seconds when things were tight. All but one escaped, the one Estelle had shot at. Its wingman scrambled to get clear of the wreckage, rolling into the attack made by Moineau and Vautour and pressing below them.

Irenee and Willard's attack was foiled as the fight for them turned into a big loop with the two J-11s splitting at the bottom of the maneuver, free of the MICAs. The two Veruseans then ascended again, aiming for  the Mirages in the hopes of getting them while they were still together.

"Sunny Lead, Shogun Lead, what's yer status?" Mark asked as he passed below the fight between Eagle and the J-11s.

The farmboy fighter pilot turn away from the center of the city and tried to get a bead on how many SAMs they had left. The RWR had calmed considerably; even if SA-20 sites were still around, the appearance of HARM-toting aircraft had scared them into silence. He looked back up at the dogfights and decided to push north to exit the area.

"Basilisk, Basilisk this is Shogun Lead. Not getting much in the way of Gargoyles. Standby to push." He radioed.

"Yeah I'm only seeing errant tracers...Zeuses maybe, don't seem guided." Eric remarked as he circled around the city's eastern side.

On the ground James and his squad had taken up residence in the building that Canis had hit in its first run and moved to the far side to get a better view of the target building. They were positioned to the structure's extreme left, allowing them some respite from the dozen or so T-90s around the place. James rushed up some stairs to the roof to provide support to Jose, who was a few steps behind him. The roof was polluted with smoke and dust as he ran out, M8 at the ready.

"We've got heavy fire at ten o' clock! Near that garage!" Izzy yelled out over the radio.

James moved his weapon towards the direction and hit the dirt, banging off several rounds in the direction of the fire. Jose hit the stone near a part of the roof's bordering wall that had deteriorated and  began feeding bursts downrange. Overhead somewhere was the roar of CAS, but James paid it no heed. All he did was fire at the muzzle flashes and silhouettes he caught around the building. In the street next to them, two more platoons of Marines were in holding. One was to seize the target building while the other, hurt by the ambush, was to consolidate and lick its wounds.

The T-90s carefully pumped rounds towards the axis of advance they'd determined the Oseans were coming from, and not all of them fired. Some were maneuvering, reacting to reports of M1A2s hitting another company of T-90s near a local university. In the intensity of the fight, their escortees hadn't been sent out, The fighting was too brutal. The next run by 32nd Fighter Squadron's contribution to the fight made it even more so.

James barely flinched as the volley of Brimstones found their targets. Three T-90s, positioned along the attack axis the Marines were rolling up, blew out smoke grenades and kept their Shtora systems firing on all cylinders. The tanks further behind them turned out to be the targets. James saw one of the turrets lift up and cartwheel forward. He had to shout at that one.

"H-holy shit...GET SUUM!" The Corporal yelled. Beneath him the JTAC pulled up his radio and pinpointed the next target for them.

"Canis, you're right on target! We've got an office building across the way that's putting up a lot of fire. We will laze, standby!"

Shamu asked over intercom, "SAMs are down, bro.  Shall we?"

    "We shall."

"Marshall, Basilisk is inbound to target."

With that the four Strike Eagles turned towards the media building.  In the back seat of Basilisk 1, Shamu acquired the target on his Sniper pod and programmed the coordinates into the JDAMs hanging from the CFTs.  In Basilisk 2, Millie did the same in case something happened to his boss's bombs.

Sunny realized around the same time as his counterpart in Shogun flight, that the SAM sites had gone dark after the first round of SAMs. Between that and the increasingly frantic dogfight above him, Sunny decided it was time to exit the are as well.

"Sunny Lead to Shogun Lead, following your. . . lead on this one" Sunny internally slapped himself for the unintentional pun.

The four Thunderhawks from VF-3 swung around in the same general direction as their fellow aviators.

Seeing the Basilisks streak into their target, Sunny couldn't help but give them a little support.

"Give 'em hell Basilisk." The Lieutenant Commander cheered on.

Broadsword 3 reacted violently to the PL-9, and pulled into an Immelman. He followed the climb with a dive, all the while streaming a set of flares  Riley mentally fist pumped, but he noted 3s call of "Defensive!" and swung the Hornet into a tight turn, lining up with the J-11.

"Fox 3!" he called sending another AMRAAM after the knock-off Flanker.

Hannibal and Chart also took interest in the J-11, but held back in case Raptor's missiles missed its mark.
