His kill secured, Prettyboy turned towards the harbor and ducked down to avoid immediate attention, hoping his jet's mostly gray paint job would melt him into the cityscape. Streetfighter pulled into a right bank to avoid the falling F-02 and copied his wingman. Like the lead pair, they steered clear of Nightrider's unfolding rescue, which how had an HH-62 at the scene to get the downed pilot.

"Good job out there, Street." Nathan said as he relaxed a little.

"Slowly but surely man, slowly but surely." Rick replied as he looked up and saw the first VVS fighters coming in to reinforce.

The two F-24s had a while to catch up with their friends, who by now were cruising along the coast off Nordands. Jed and Annie weren't saying much of anything to each other still.

"Skull Lead, Skull 2-3 and 2-4 are feet wet." Nathan spoke up. Jed nodded in satisfaction; all going home again.

"Roger that 2-3, see y'all at the barn." He radioed back.

"Serpent copies," Shamu radioed.  "One more run?"

    "Yup."

Looking down at his screens, Shamu said, "Never mind, they made it into the city.   No shot."

    "Good point."

"Chess, Serpent is standing by for relief."

    Erusean Advance's Eastern Flank
    November 20, 2045 (Local Time: 1145)
    Northern Fristad

The lead elements of 2nd Legion's armored thrust had filtered into the city, past their destroyed and disabled brethren and down into the streets. By now they were weary of the UN planes circling above, trying to pounce on them now that virtually all their air defense was gone. The tanks's Kaos and APS systems were all fully at work, waiting for the next round of incoming missiles. They moved fast to avoid jamming up traffic, using two lanes on the right side of the highway while the left slowly became a graveyard and further back a makeshift aid station for wounded and dead.

Blue-colored lasers shot out quickly with small reports that sounded as sci-fi as the system was. The off ramp proved to be something of hitch in the plan, though. One of the M-85s lost a track and rolled into the right barrier as it moved down, systems hampered by its sudden turns and the highway going up as the tank went down. When another took a catastrophic hit and rammed into the concrete divide between highway and ramp, smoke grenade launchers went off. Their fellow tanks moved around it and uped their speed. A few turned left at the bottom of the ramp, going into cover against the missiles.

The M-89s went off at another ramp, going full speed from the start. Those spared the CBU runs were moving fast towards cover. The highway like the tanks were doing or just the heavier concentrations of buildings would offer help. Inadvertently they would be using the civilian landscape as a shield, but it was all they had. Most of the crews and infantry also hoped the UN wouldn't throw caution to the wind and start risking noncombatants to kill some APCs and tanks. More reinforcements were also being fed in, a full, fresh company of M-85s and the same in terms of M-89s.

    Erusean advance's Western Flank
    November 20, 2045 (Local Time: 1146)
    Northern Fristad

To the west, the advance was being hampered as bad, but they still had the benefit of some MD-2s. The systems were easily keeping the AV-3s trying to get in and wreck some AFVs at bay, and with Nightrider gone and the Erusean's eastern advance getting much more attention they already had a solid foothold beyond the highway. The Bearcats had to rely on long-range shots and pop-up attacks. Most weren't doing anything, prompting the AV-3s to start withdrawing. It was, devastatingly, time to start abandoning the city.

It almost looked like the battle had ended in this part of the city, with prisoners already being collected from the parts of 1st Airborne and 88th Homeland who had failed to move fast enough. empty houses were being garrisoned and word of more supplies from the King Faust and her fellow amphibious ships was being passed down.

    AWACS Chess
    November 20, 2045 (Local Time: 1146)
    150 Miles South of Fristad

Major Nelson had never woken up and thought he'd be part of a retreat. It wasn't good for any reason other than to accept it as a possibility. They'd bloodied the bastards good, though; real good. He watched as the VVS MiGs and Sukhois started pushing the remaining CFAs back to the northwest. Meanwhile the strike jets started squawking for targets. The controllers, some actually VSS types to help with the language/tactics barrier, started replying, centering the push on the western advance.

Nelson settled back into his seat and adjusted his mike.

"Roger that Serpent, you may RTB. Bravo Zulu." He breathed out.

"All aircraft this is AWACS Chess, next shift is inbound. Cleared to RTB." Someone else in the E-9's cabin added.

    KILLS FOR THIS ROUND

Nier 1 has killed an M-85S

Nier 2 has killed an M-85S

Hellhound flight who now formed up and moved in a loose diamond formation at eighteen thousand feet level over the Nordic coast acknowledged the the E-9 operator who gave the go ahead to return to base.

"Solid copy Chess, Hellhound flight is tanking and RTB at this time."

"This was a hell of a ride, you girls really stole the show up here!" Victor said, looking down at his radar display and seeing the incoming flight of Yuktobanian fighters that were sent to relieve them. Naomi smiled and replied, "Thanks. We already know, I think I've earned a shower and something warm to drink today."

"I wouldn't sell yourself short Victor, that kill you made will definitely turn heads in the unit. Maybe outside it."  Gisele quipped to which Victor blushed slightly out of embarrassment thinking of the latter part of Spikes statement.

"You all performed excellently. We saved lives and all came back in one piece. Be proud of that." Erich radioed over as their aircraft began their trek to the nearest tanker, then home. Naomi in the meantime radioed to Jed and the rest of Skull flight.

"Hellhound Two to Skull Lead, still alive and in one piece?"

"Sharkman, they've gone to ground.  We can't get them."

"Yeah.  Serpents, form up.  We're going home."

    "Two."

    "Four."

Shamu radioed, "Chess, Serpent is RTB at this time."

"Roger that Hellhound, Serpent. Nice work out there today." The Major replied. In the meantime Jed looked up as he heard Naomi call to him.

"A little banged up, Nomad...but Ah'm fine." He reported, looking back at the damage done to his aircraft. He was concerned he might've worsened it with the maneuvers he pulled.

"Skull 2-2, think yah could do a quick inspection, make sure Ah'm not about to crash?" He added as an afterthought.

    "Roger that, Lead." Annie replied.

She brought her F-24 down and squinted at the other fighter as she held her position for a minute, and then swept underneath him. She saw the scars and dents from the AP-11, but no leaks or pieces about to fall off.

"I'm not seeing anything Bronco, is your AI reporting any problems?" She radioed. Inside his plane, Jed shook his head quickly.

"Negative, AI's showing all is good."

"Okay then, I think you'll be alright."

"Just doing what is expected of us Chess." Erich said as Naomi spoke up in reply to Sharky and Jed.

"Damage aside, its good to see you all made it out just fine."

"I got my fair share out there; a little touchy at times though Serpent Lead."

"Serpent Lead, Skull lead, Ah got two of em for the dents on my baby." Jed replied. He curbed his excitement over being one step from ace in light of his damaged plane.

"I managed to nab...two, I think. Gonna have to review the flight on the projector. No damage but traffic was rather heavy, as I've heard said." Annie replied.

"What happened. Bronco?" Streetfighter had to ask as he observed his own lead's damage. Annie tensed.

"He got lucky; was probably ex-GR or somethin, too." Jed replied sarcastically. Not really, Chopra fucked the pooch; thanks Lieutenant...

She bit her lip pensively, then relaxed. No need to question why he hadn't brought up what happened because she was sure to hear about it later today.

"Wolfe's gonna be pissed, Bronco." Nathan couldn't help but bring up.

"Eh Ah'll just nod my head a bunch until he's done. Besides bird'll be down for maybe a day." Jed assured.

Hearing of the damage to Jed's jet, Sharky frowned.  He keyed the mic for a moment, but released it immediately, deciding that the conversation he had in mind was better had face to face back at base, rather than over the radio.  Instead he radioed to Naomi, "Good to hear, kiddo."

    Colt 11
    November 20, 2045 (Local Time 1215)
    Over Fristad Harbor

Colonel Jeanne Klipper, commander of the 17th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), watched with growing dissatisfaction as the UV-3 carrying her circled low over the waters of Fristad's bay harbor. AV-3s, MV-25s and UV-3s all hurried away from the city in various states, some alive and well but unarmed and others limping home. In the background, pillars of smoke from the delaying actions against the Eruseans drifted up, almost permanent in their existence now. She knew those pillars were both from Erusean vehicles and those of the UN coalition. The 1st Airborne and 88th Homeland had all but wrecked themselves to hold back the tide long enough.

Her eyes shifted down to the harbor, where at least a good thousand people waited at the harbor for ships that would never return. Women, old men and kids, all forced to now endure the occupation that was to come. It was a massive blow to Klipper's pride as a Marine and as a warrior. For the first time in over half a century, the Osean Marine Corps was on the retreat. For a second she wished she had a B-2 or six at her command. She'd give those Eruseans a nice pounding and hold Fristad until the entire Corps came charging to relieve her. That wasn't how it worked, though. Another day...

"Colonel, last of our birds are clear of the city!" Her Operations Officer shouted as she stayed close to the radio. Killper lowered her binoculars and looked back.

"Alright then, get us the fuck outta here." She ordered with palatable dissatisfaction. The UV-3 banked to the left and moved towards the Hicks alongside the rest of its fellow tilt-jets.

    ---------------------------------------MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!------------------------------------------

Debrief: Good job everyone. Though we lost the city, we've severly bloodied the Erusean force moving to take it and have evacuated over 70% of all those trying to flee, to include the remains of 1st Airborne and 88th Homeland. OFS Hicks and her amphibious group are well out to sea now, and will be heading to Wielvakia, where it'll exchange the refugees for its full MEU. In the meantime, we've still got a few things to knock out to slow the Erusean advance. Rest up and report back in when the next briefing is posted.

    Skalski Air Base Ramp
    November 24, 2045 (Local Time: 1905)
    Southeast Wielvakia

    "Sir?"

Jed looked away from his fresh-as-new Hellcat at Wolfe as he approached. The Plane Captain had a look of apprehension on his face, as if he wasn't sure he could trust Jed with the bird again. Jed put on a look of confidence and walked towards the man to meet him.

"Ah'll take better care of her...one ding is enough for me, Wolfe." He assured, holding out a hand. the enlisted man considered the pilot for a minute, and then nodded.

"Uh trust yah, sir." He said as the two shook hands.

Jed nodded and turned back towards his jet. Today he had four GBU-32 JDAMs, Joint Direct Attack Munitions. With stationary targets being the name of the game, Paveways would be reserved for another day. To defend himself he had the standard load of Sidewinders, AMRAAM, and gun. He and Annie would be the bomb droppers while Prettyboy and Streetfighter stayed overhead with a load of Sidewinders and AMRAAMs.

    "Bronco!"

Jed looked over his shoulder as he flipped down a boarding ladder and saw Annie in the early night, illuminated by the base's floodlights. He slid his helmet on and walked to her.

    "What's up, Tsun-Tsun?" He asked.

Annie considered him for a minute, and then his jet. It hadn't been the most pleasant stint of training sessions but they'd gotten more coordinated. If nothing else they'd gotten closer; Annie liked being closer to him again. Just close enough she could feel happy for now and get away once or twice with worrying over his safety. She considered saying something like "Come back in one piece, okay?" or 'Don't get shot down up there; it won't be the same without you." but held her tounge. Jed tilted his head as she stared at him.

"Something on yer mind?" The young man asked. Annie paused a second, then shook her head.

"I...nevermind." She said, turning around. She doubted he'd read her tone, but she didn't want to take a chance.

Jed watched her turn and walk off. He mused for a second, and then looked back at her.

"Tsun-Tsun!" He called as she was almost near her jet.

Annie stopped and looked back at him, and when he had her attention he thumped a fist against his vest. Imitating Rhah from Platoon, he then threw both his fists up in the air, but instead of roaring he called "Ah'm counting on y'all to help me kick em in the nuts!". He knew it wasn't her style, but she needed to know she was needed. Annie smirked, uncharacteristic of her ways, and mimicked his motion.

"The same to you, Bronco!" She called.

He smiled and turned back towards his jet. Takeoff felt more charged that day, like they were winning the war rather than losing it. It was what they all wanted to see in regards to what morale was supposed to be like.

    Skalski Air Base ramp
    November 24, 2045 (Local time: 1905)
    Southeast Wielvakia

As he rolled underneath Night Witch on a crawler cart to check the load of CBU-104 GATOR and CBU-106 WCMDs with their mixed payloads of BLU-106 anti-runway munitions and HB876 delayed-action mines loaded in the central weapons bay, Shamu said loudly so Sharky could hear him while he completed his own pre-flight, "Night runway strike.  Just like old times, huh?"

Sharky said glumly as he checked the flaps and slats, ensuring the seals felt sound, "Just like old times."

Rolling out from under the FB-22, Shamu looked up at the taller, skinnier man.  "Sharkman.  You with me, bro?"

    "Yeah."

"Look, sure you missed out on your usual turkey and crazy orgy.  But you're getting delicious concrete and runway.  We're getting to break out the 106s for the first time in fuckin' forever.  It's our dream mission, man."

Sharky said flatly, "First off, they had ham this year."  After a second, though, he nodded.  "But yeah, you're right.  Not gonna lie, after the dinner we had last night, I could use some protein," he said with a slight smirk.

Shamu's face broke into a grin.  "There's my bro.  Let's punch some holes," he said warmly, extending a fist.

"Let's punch some holes."  Sharky returned the fist bump, pulling his helmet on his head and climbing up the ladder into Night Witch's cockpit, nodding to Johnny as he did so.  Shamu slid into his seat a second later.  As the canopy closed and the electronics whirred to life, Sharky radioed, "Serpents, radio check."

    "2."

    "4."

"Two, you gonna save the maintenance guys some work today?"

"That's the plan, sir.  That's the plan."

Sharky chuckled.  "Alright.  Remember, 1's got the north runways, 2's got the south.  3, 4, level base facilities.  Whatever you have left, well, get creative.  Let's torch this place."

    "Check."

"You're hyped about this, aren't you, boss."

    "Maybe just a little, Peaches."

    Skalski Air Base Ramp

    November 24th, 2045

    1905 Hrs (Local)

Steven conducted his final checks on Naomi's fighter as ordnance techs put the finishing touches on the two racks of GBU-39 SDB (Small Diameter Bomb) that were now attached to the multirole fighter. Naomi and Erich's aircraft would be carrying eight of the precision guided bombs for the operation while Gisele and Victor's aircraft would be loaded with four AGM-154 JSOW each on BRU-55 rails.

"Everything checks out Nomad; shouldn't be too much of a hassle up there unless you catch a few." Steven said, twirling a stylus in his augmented hand while taking another slow walk around the winter camouflaged jet.

"I'll make an effort not to Tinman." Naomi replied, sliding off her tiara hairband followed by putting on her black and red striped HGU-57 while images of the damage to Jed's Hellcat II flashed in her head. "It's not me you should be anxious about."

"You and the Captain be rolling eight GBU-39's for this hop; should be more than enough to damage base facilities, but the runway job will go to your Uncles."

"Not expecting to chew or mine concrete with these anyway. Air to Air is the same as always."

Malmsteen replied, "Yep. Nothing fancy for that angle. Twenty-Five, AMRAAM, and Sidewinders." The Crew Chief then looked up from his tablet and noticed Naomi's facial expression.

"Naomi, everything okay? You know you can talk to me."

Naomi sighed slightly, "Thanksgiving isn't the same through a video-call. It pulls at me not being able to sit at the table with my Parents, Boyfriend, Cousins, and Sister...plus turkey slices didn't look as appetizing as the Brisket and Ham my parents made."

"I know what you mean, my wife wasn't very happy either and my food sucked too. Hey. Concentrate on what's ahead. You know what they say, 'Do it for those you love' and all that noise." The augmented Osean said, giving a small slap on Naomi's shoulder with his free hand.

Naomi smiled lightly, "Got it Tinman."

"Ready whenever you are Sir! Ma'am!" Shouted a passing female ordnance tech.

"Understood Airman. I say its time I go pillage an airfield."

"That's the spirit Naomi!" shouted a nearby Gisele who was geared up and already mantling her Taipan. Naomi couldn't suppress the grin that formed across her face at the bode of confidence her friend and wingman gave her. Naomi now climbed up the ladder to the cockpit of her aircraft, getting herself seated while her Crew Chief followed to help her buckle into the Taipan's ejection seat.

    "Make it look pretty Naomi."

    "Oh; I fully intend to."

Once the young pilot had been strapped in, Naomi began to bring the aircraft's systems online with the assistance of her AI system. While the engine and electronics roused from their dormant state Erich sounded off to his subordinates.

    "Hounds; Radio Check."

"Hellhound Two reads you loud and clear lead."

    "Hellhound Three up and ready."

"Four; ready and not so willing."

    "Four, less snark next time."

    "I'll make an effort sir."

    "Suuure you will." Gisele chuckled.

"Let's get out there and make a mess." Erich called over the channel as he released the brake to taxi his jet out to the runway. The four aircraft formed up, clearing the hangars and awaiting their turn to take off. As they raced off in order; Naomi felt a sudden change in her attitude come with the ascension of her aircraft.

As he cruised to altitude, Jed started verifying coordinates for their targets. He was assigned to put two JDAMs into the control tower while Annie put he weapons along two major sections of the light rail track and one into each station. Jed's remaining bombs would go into the complex's primary power generators and the backups. Annie would have to go elsewhere for more damage to the light rail.

Jed's feelings on ground attack were...mixed. A few rides in Levy had cause him to hate the world of low-level attack. Eric's opinions on the subject had also had their say, as Eric Bradford had hated dropping bombs from a fighter. Like his dad and proverbial uncle, Jed's realm was high up in the air, twisting and turning against an opponent in an equally high-performance aircraft. But the weapons he was carrying meant some benefits to ease the flight. JDAM meant he could get up high, out of the range of most AA guns and low-end SAMs. He could drop the weapon and then, as one would with AMRAAM, maneuver around as he pleased. He didn't plan on snaking along the deck today like the "Killer Fish" did.

Prettyboy and Streetfighter rose and settled two miles ahead and above in Loose Deuce while the two bomb-configured F-24s stayed at 22,000. Neither Annie nor Jed said anything to each other while they made sure they wer ready to go and in position.

The two FB-22s with their smaller compatriots settled into position two thousand feet above and a few miles behind Jed and his wingmen.  Steady at their altitude, in the cockpit of Night Witch, Sharky and Shamu were relaxed as they went through their usual routine.  Deep strikes like this were their bread and butter, and as far as strikes went, this was not all that challenging.  For one thing, there was no air defense net to penetrate.  Taking advantage of that fact, the Basilisks could use optimal mission profiles to maximize damage, rather than having to account for the enemy.  The Rosenthal aircraft would be releasing from high altitude to enable them to get as much stand-off range from the WCMDs as possible and remove the need for multiple runs, relying on the GPS and INS guidance of the cluster bombs to account for any deviations from the high release altitude.

In the cockpit of "Taquito Supreme," the FB-22 that was serving as Ay Chihuahua's replacement while it underwent its recertifications, Taco said to Shady, "Okay, is it just me, or are the boss's practice airfield strikes way harder than this?"

"No, it's not just you.  I have nightmares about those.  This is like heaven compared to that."

    "You set on the target?"

"Yup.  SAR picture's nice and bright, coordinates are locked in.  Just gotta get to the IP."

The conversations in Serpent 1's cockpit were much terser.  "Sharky.  Setting for alternate spread."

    "Right."

    "100 ms split.  Dumping inwards."

    "Got it.  Thanks, babe."

"You know it, hon.  Set to computer release.  Twenty minutes to IP."

"We'll have a great angle from here." The cameraman nodded. His friend, sitting behind a rugged-looking laptop nodded.

"Yeah...okay everything set up?" The other of the two agreed. The cameraman put an eye to the device and then raised a thumbs up.

    "All good."

The man on the computer nodded and stared back out at the airport. Centrum Konsing was one of the largest airports in Nordlands and now it was completely abandoned. Not even scavengers had arrived yet in the face of the advancing Eruseans. A few enterprising airport employees, looking to play hero, had set a few tractors, snowplows and shuttle buses across the runway to block it. Otherwise the entire place was a ghost town. Several airliners sat in place, collecting snow in little bits while the trains remained at the two stations. Inside there was nothing, no one. The camera crew had snooped around earlier but quickly retreated to the woods after findig almost nothing.

    Over the Avgrund Straits
    November 24, 2045 (Local Time: 1903)
    East of the Nordic Coast

Major Edward Gordon glanced around as he disconnected from the 787 tanker. Seeing it was clear he maneuvered the CFA-44 down and forward to start setting up a place for his fourship to reform. Behind him, Hunter E1-2 moved forward to plug into the tanker. Further back, Hunter E2 was waiting for its turn to tank. At it's head was former Songolian Imperial Air Force pilot Captain Petch Maleenon. Maleenon had been an F-25 pilot like the Major, though he'd never seen combat. At least, nothing more than the occasional bombing of communist guerilla rooting around the farthest reaches of his homeland. He was a good pilot, taken from Neucom prior to the war.

The 12th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron was almost back. Colonel Kavachovich and his pilots had received factory-fresh Nosferatus, pumped out by the facilities the country had nationalized in the years after the corporations' fall. Pilots had been drawn from Erusean Territorial Guard squadrons and were being converted as quickly as possible. Otherwise their pilots were taken from newly-minted pilots, some of whom were only just certified to fly the CFA this week. The Colonel and Gordon were working them hard.

The man had drawn on his Aggressor days to make the "saplings" as the EIAF called them better. All his old tricks came out and either scared the pants off of them or made them think and react. He'd then picked up the best of that gaggle, grabbed Maleenon to act as his second-in-command for this flight and launched when the order was given. Today they were to take up CAP around Centrum Korsing so the Erusean Airborne could seize the place without losing all their aircraft. A simple job and their enemy was now known. Gordon didn't expect anything out of the ordinary to happen. He settled into his thoughts while the rest of his flight came around.

The Taipans of Hellhound flight streaked out over Central Nordlands in separated pairs with Naomi and Erich flying at 22,000 feet while Gisele and Victor trailed behind the leading aircraft two-thousand feet higher at 24,000 with additional spacing between individual aircraft. Naomi scanned the skies through the green tint of nightvision as she guided her F-25.

"Approaching IP, twenty mikes out." Erich called to his flight, keeping an eye on his systems and surroundings. Even with the advances in nightvision technology flying in the dark was still demanded a greater amount of situational awareness than in the daylight. Gisele in the meantime took a brief look down at her display then called out, "Systems nominal lead, just waiting to release."

"Pffffft." Victor said with a stifled laugh, picking the innuendo out of his comrade's sentence. Naomi and Gisele simply sighed as the four closed in on the airport; their high explosive passengers ready to be dropped off at their destination.

"Chess, this is Skull Lead, crossing the Second Line." Jed radioed, referring to the Wiekval-Nord border. First Line was the front.

"Roger that Skull, good hunting." Major Nelson radioed from his station aboard the aforementioned E-9.

It couldn't have been any simpler, Jed thought. The only maneuvering he needed to do was jinking a little back and forth. The fact that there was nothing in the area made him uncomfortable. It was a great place for an ambush and this close to the lines, he imagined someone would spot him. At the very least, he didn't have to worry about the bombs. He'd hit the release point and let them do the rest. He glanced over towards Annie as they streaked through the night sky. Streetfighter and Prettyboy were flying a wide loose deuce but moving in an almost straight line.

The IP was about 20 minutes out. Annie, to a degree, wished they would go low instead of high. When she'd been in her F-16 that was how they delivered Sea Venom ASMs. She remembered she was the wingman, though. She'd still make it a point to share her knowledge, though. It might prove useful and she seemed to get the impression Rosenthal's lead aviators reveled in going low. Jed seemed to have some weird aversion to it. She looked over as Jed and she closed while they maneuvered. He looked towards her, but between his black visor, the night and the distance he looked less like a human and more like a humanoid robot. She looked back forward as the landscape of Nordlands passed below at a steady rate. The dusting of snow here and there made it all look like a big blanket of camouflage.

With the immediate tasks out of the way, Sharky radioed on the interplane channel, "Skull 1, Serpent 1.  Too bad we're not doing this the fun way, huh?"

"To be honest, Serpent, Ah'd rather be turning and burning with their fast air. Like Mr. Eric said a long time ago: dropping bombs is what the Strike-Fighter guys do." Jed replied with a half-smirk.

IP was now ten minutes out, but all Jed could still do was weave and jink. His RWR told him the sky was jammed with electronic signals, hostile and friendly. At least he had a sky full of unfriendlies to up the pucker factor.

The F-02s lagged slightly behind and above the two heavily loaded FB-22s.

"Inbound on the IP," reported Chart from the back seat. "Twenty mikes"

"Copy, 4, hit the eastern access roads, we'll take the western ones, two Gators per, wanna keep the fuckers busy. After that, du,p the SBDs on the fuel dump, then pull off for TARCAP."
said Riley. Adjusting his visor, he glanced at he RWR, which remained silent. That troubled him, the Rusies tended to go full throttle as soon as they got the allied aircraft on radar.

"That Nordic chick is really into you." said Chart over the ICS.

"I know, my question is fuckin why? Do I look like the man with a whole lot of cash?" he responded.

"I guess she read about how much we air pirates make,"

"Fuck that, I ain't old enough to be a sugar daddy yet.

Ahead and above of the strikers, the Phantom IIIs traced icy contrails as they skimmed over the clouds.

"Flying into the devil mouth with no damn recon. Are they trying to get us killed!?" exclaimed Karhila. "This is the type of shit that got the rest of the squadron wiped out. Fucking hell!"

"I new I shouldn't have given you that coffee." said Lahti from the back seat. Flicking her eyes across hr sensors, she said. "Anyways, target is twenty minutes out and closing."

"Copy, right on schedule. I'm quite surprised they haven't sent anything up at us yet."

"Maybe we are in luck." responded Lahti.

"That would be a good change...."muttered Karhila.

    "Hear that?"

The cameraman looked up and around.

"Yeah...it's coming from the West." He nodded to the other man.

The two listened a minute more as the low roar of jets crossed over the land from the lands well out in front of them. They both knew that if that was the case, they were likely hearing UN jets. The two nodded wordlessly to one another.

"Okay then, let's get some footage." The cameraman remarked, hitting the switch to power on his device.

    Centrum Korsing
    November 20, 2045 (Local Time: 2020)
    Central Nordlands

Placed among the various sections of the airport were small black boxes, each about the size of a large briefcase. They sat outside, all of them, placed on rooftops or near airplanes. On activation from a remote signal, a few started broadcasting various signals. Three worked together to emit jamming signals designed to produce the effect of barrage jamming. Other boxes started sending out signals mimicking SAM sites, searching for targets. The last few remained still, ominously enough. They sat there, only detectable if one saw them. All the noise and emissions was purely electronic, though. The airport still looked the same. Erusean radios in the area started squawking.

"Hunter this is Rave, black boxes are transmitting; what's your ETA?"

"Rave, Hunter, we're about five minutes out. Main force is fifteen minutes out. Any signs of enemy aircraft?"

    "Negative we're just hearing engines."

    Over the Coast of Nordlands
    November 20, 2045 (Local Time: 2020)
    Central Nordlands

"Hunter Lead this is Tower. We've got several contacts on radar approaching Centrum Korsing...Heading 270, Various altitudes, nearest aircraft are 597 Kilometers away. Nearest group is at Altitude 609, we count two. Enemy CAP appears to be at Altitude 6700. You are cleared to engage at will." an E-787 orbiting northeast of Virkin radioed.

"Roger that Tower, Hunter will engage." Gordon promised.

At his orders, Hunter's CFAs started spacing out, with several going low and switching off their radars under the cover of EA-200s in the area. Gordon stayed high and visible along other more experienced pilots. He'd let the saplings do the ambush so they'd have a better chance. The pilot toggled his radar and weapons selection to apply his AP-13s to the high-flying CAP; the low aircraft would go to the saplings. Besides, Gordon liked to be high and fast. Ambushes were for when you wanted to drive home the point, but first you shook your opponent up.

He had a good idea of how this would be done. The Oseans had taken the lead like the always did. He guessed they'd have a CAP of F-24s or F-28s covering a force of F-25s, A-27s, or F/A-38s. Within the strike package there'd likely be SEAD birds and jammers. For an airfield they'd likely apply area-denial weapons like mines or bombs that cratered the hard surface. He quietly wished he could've been able to brief the others on this prior, but now it was too late. He'd pass the word on so the paras would know later. In the meantime though he had enemy aircraft to kill.

"Warning, enemy search radar! SAM!" AI shouted at Jed.

The pilot's eyes widened, but his instincts worked almost automatically. He deployed chaff and dipped his nose down towards the terrain in a right bank. Jed turned away from the airport as he got a good fix on the emission; apparently the Eruseans had already gotten there. At the same time he keyed up his radio.

"Skull 2-2, break and dive!" He ordered.

"Rog." Annie replied as she tensed. Her RWR was also in a tizzy.

Annie made a much more violent move towards the ground, easing the F-24 down to about 4000 feet. The radio started to come alive as AWACS demanded to know what was going on. Jed was too busy ordering Streetfighter and Pretty boy to defend themselves. She looked at her GP and saw she was now almost perpendicular to the airport.

"Skull 2-1 I repeat, how many SAMs have you detected?" AWACS Chess demanded impatiently.

"Unknown number. All aircraft be advised, hostiles have apparently already reached the airport." Jed radioed as the warbling continued.

    "Enemy jamming." AI added stoically.

So far it was just the search radar and that jamming. He assumed that because he'd gotten down on the deck, he'd avoided getting shot at for now. Carefully and reluctantly he started easing his nose towards the airport again to try and spot a launch should any occur. He didn't see anything, though; not at first. Jed cocked a brow and wondered why they weren't shooting or trying to shoot. He stayed cautious either way.

"Bronco this is Tsun-Tsun, suggest we go for a pop-up attack." Annie radioed.

"Rog, tell me yer heading." Jed replied.

The two coordinated their passes so they wouldn't collide. The plan was to make one pass, low and fast. Their escorts would push west again and establish a CAP there, away from the SAMs. Jed rushed over a valley and roared down towards the airport. He squinted and tried to spot a launcher or radar, but he couldn't see anything...where were they?
