"Caution, Mud 19.  Caution, Mud 21.  Caution, Mud 19.  Be advised, experiencing radar jamming.  Caution, emissions at 80% of detection values."

Cortana's sudden report, combined with Skull's dispersal, caused Sharky's brow to furrow.  "VID?"

Aided by the AI, which had immediately cued the EOTS to the direction of the hostile emissions, Shamu reported, "No visible launchers."

Sharky couldn't help but smirk.  "The bastards are fucking with us.  Shams, any changes on our end?"

"Shit no, brother.  We're locked in."

"Good.  Serpents, new plan.  Get low and disengage after winchester.  No sense hanging around up here with our dicks hanging out."

    "2 Copies."

    "4 Wilco."

Sharky opened up a channel to the F-24s and said calmly, "Skull lead, Serpent 1.  Relax, kid, they're playing with you.  The spikes are fake.  They've got something planned.  Recommend you take up CAP after weapons release.  Serpent will be disengaging low to the south after our runs.  Chess, requesting dope on any popup group."

In the rear cockpit, Shamu said, "Cortana, spike the jammers?"

    "ECCM already activated."

    "That's my girl."

"I am not a girl, I am an artificial intelligence construct designed to-"

    "Cortana.  Colloquialism."

"Right.  ECCM is engaged.  Radar function at 75%."

"Search radar emission spike, missile launch probability at 80%." Spikey called out to Naomi as the airport suddenly came to life with active radar spikes followed by jamming interference.

"I've been spiked, ASPJ is up and chaff is at the ready." Victor radioed as the formation of Taipans made a break for lower attitude before leveling out; something didn't seem right about these signatures to Erich and his flight but they weren't going to take the chance.

"Be on the heads up; we could have popup contacts on the ground and in the air. Hounds, coordinate with Skull and Serpent on your runs."

"Copy Boss." Spikes replied as her AI managed her aircraft's now active jamming system, Naomi in the meantime checked her master arm and focused on the airport with her targeting gear.

"Lead? You seeing this? There's nothing there...they're using false echoes." Naomi said with a slight growl in her voice over the comms.

"Keep it cool Naomi; not the first time ghosts have been used to trick us." Gisele replied.

"Serpent Lead, this is Hellhound One. Can you confirm what we are seeing in our feed?" Erich called as they moved in to release ordnance on their respective targets. "Hounds; drop and push to provide support to Skull after we are Winchester. I feel like there's something off."

Hearing Sharky's call, combined with Rose's cues, Riley ordered her to flip on ECCM. Responding to Sharky's change, Riley said,

"3 copies, 4, stick to the previous targets. Let's get stuck in!"

"Fucking Rusies, can't even put up actual SAM batteries to protect their shit." said Riley. "I was disappointed last time, I barely got to shoot any SAMs."

"You are nuts, I'm glad Rose is along to keep you from going to Weasel on me." joked Chart.

"Thank you ma'm," said the AI in her light South African accent. "we are now at 76% efficiency."

As the Wyverns descended through the thin clouds, Chart double checked the weapons targeting, ensuring all was set for launch.

"Heavy jamming, but I don't have any SAMs on the ground." said Lahti, looking through the EOTS.

"It s those damn black boxes again." growled Karhila.

Looking through his cuing system, Karhila squinted noting some faint white smudges in the distance.

"I have high bandits, they are emitting." said Karhilas wingman.

"Shit, they've done this before." start checking low.

Switching to the strike frequency, Karhila said, "All aircraft, this is Haukka 1-1, bandits might be sweeping in low, they sprung this on us before. The high group is a distraction."

    Centrum Korsing
    November 24, 2045 (Local Time: 2023)
    Central Nordlands

As if to retort against there being no danger below, the top of one of the boxes lit up and sent a long, missile-shaped object into the sky. It aimed itself towards Jed's jet while another was launched at Annie. A third and a fourth from another box went sailing towards the other incoming strikers. Mysteriously though, none of them detonated like a typical warhead, nor did they actually have a radar signature. It was just one of the boxes making the emission, truth be told. Instead, as if remote controlled, the first few objects went above the F-24s and exploded in a bright light, almost like a flashbang on steroids. The others arced towards the incoming aircraft and exploded in the same flash.

"Hunter this is Rave, be advised we're employing the dazzlers. Stay heads up for flshes." A voice said over the Erusean frequencies.

"Roger that Rave...Hunter is inbound." Gordon replied.

    Hunter Flight
    November 20, 2045 (Local Time: 2024)
    Central Nordlands

"Hunter this is Tower, main force is ten minutes out." AWACS radioed. Gordon nodded in satisfaction.

"Roger that Tower...Hunter E2, action now!" He replied, switching back to the battle at hand after acknowledging the E-787's words.

From their position down on the deck, the four CFA-44s pushed forward as the Nordic pilots had predicted. Captain Malenoon spotted the lower F-24s maneuvering to defeat the imaginary SAMs. He ordered his three and four to push west and follow up the flashes from the "Dazzlers". The two CFAs split and activated their radars after a minute, appearing within twenty miles of the strikers. One pilot, Hunter E2-4 went high and took a belly shot with an AP-13 at the descending Wyverns. The other whipped left, then came back to the right at Serpent Lead. He shot off two AP-13s and switched to his gun, firing into the FB-22s' path.

In the meantime the Songolian pilot turned towards Jed as he was circling. He used his IRST to target Jed's jet and depressed the launch button. An AP-11 left the right wing.

"Hunger E2-1, Rapier." He drawled in a gruff voice. H e looked towards his wingman as he went high, towards the air over Jed's plane.

"Get the two above." He said. With a quick acknowledgment Hunter E2-2 snapped up towards Streetfighter and Prettyboy.

Further back, Gordon's fourship targeted the F/A-64s. In his cockpit, Gordon watched as his plane's radar zeroed in on Karhilla's Phantom. With calm movements and steady breaths he let the electronics do their thing before he started a classic BVR engagement. the 64 was only relatively familiar to him; he'd fought it only when this war had started. It was big, but it was powerful. He watched the diamond reach the TD box and clenched his teeth.

"Hunter E1-1, Long bow Longbow." He called.

Like a wold leading its pack, the two AP-13s slid from their wing rails and started running towards the Phantoms. Gordon called for the flight to break and pulled his nose up.

Post by Ronin201 on Thu Dec 08, 2016 9:36 am

    Old man got cocky...

The rogue thought zipped through Jed's brain like a bullet; he paid it no mind as he looked away from the brilliant flash going off at his eleven high. He waited for shrapnel, but heard nothing clanging against his jet. Not even AI said anything. The whole affair inadvertently threw his vision to the right just in time to catch the shape of a CFA pointed at him, and an AP-11 coming off it's rails

"Bandits, three low. Skull 2-2 break attack...Three, Four where are y'all?" Jed called.

"Three and Four engaged defensive. Bandits eleven high." Prettyboy reported.

Jed was about to ask why AWACS hadn't called them out when the thought occurred to him that someone, the Nords he'd guessed, had called out the contacts. When? He wasn't giving it any thought; instead he deployed flares and broke into the attack. In the back of his mind he started creating a new plan. He'd get around this CFA, put some distance between him and the Erusean, and then come back around and dump his bombs. The guy above him hadn't fired; Jed would slip outta grasp before he could. He had the coordinates he just needed to release the weapons.

"Skull 2-2, say status." Jed radioed as he hauled the F-24 into a hard right, flares twinkling behind him.

"Skull 2-2 unegaged." Annie assured, recovering from the flash. It'd almost plowed her into the ground..

Annie knew it was what her flight lead needed to hear, and the two both smiled at the. Annie first followed through with her pop-up attack. She came up from down low a dozen miles from the airport. She looked at the symbology on her left MFD and then released the four JDAMs from her jet.

"Skull 2-2, bombs away." She called.

Like a cavalry charge, she aimed right for the jets harassing Jed and armed her 20mm.

"Skull 2-1, I'm going for bandit above you." She announced.

"Roger that..." Jed moaned over the Gs gripping his frame.

Annie tilted left and lead the Nosferatu. With little more than a second's hesitation she pulled back the trigger on the front of her control stick. The M61 made an angry buzz as it spewed tracers out into the night sky.

High above, Street and Prettyboy had gotten lucky against the Dazzlers. The devices had gone off behind, negating some of the effects. They were, however, right in front of the CFAs lead by Major Gordon. The two Hellcats broke formation and streamed chaff to defend themselves, sacrificing position for survival. Prettyboy looked at his radar as he twisted down and then perpendicular to what he thought was an AP-13 coming for him. It turned out it was bound for the Nords. The Phantoms were bound to shoot back...

"Haukka 1-1 this is Skull 2-3...watch for us when you shoot!" Prettyboy called on that thought. In the meantime he'd buy them some breathing room.

"Skull 2-4, bracket bandits at our 12 and engage." He ordered.

    "Roger that." Streetfighter radioed.

Rick Willan yanked his fighter to the left, deploying a few more bits on chaff. He made a high turn back to the right, painting the nearest two Nosferatus with his radar. He watched the two TD Boxes go to his E-HUD from his HMD and waited while the AESA did the math. As soon as he heard the tone, he shot twice.

"Skull 2-4 Fox 3, Fox 3." He radioed as the AIM-120s fell away and pushed ahead.

Sharky swore as the missile alarm blared, flipping Night Witch onto her back and screaming earthward, streaming chaff and flares.  The sudden maneuver took him out of the path of the CFA-44's tracers, while the plume of chaff served to decoy the AP-13s with the help of the towed array and ECM.  Seeing his leader go to ground, Taco copied the move, diving for the deck.  Straining against the G's, Shamu grunted, "New plan?"

Sharky simply clicked his mic twice.

"New plan.  Release on your HUD.  Linked targets with 2."

Sharky was silent as the new release coordinates popped up on his HUD, with projected impact patterns being superimposed over the image of the runway in cool green lines.  The "vacation" was over, and this was not going to be a nice, leisurely high altitude approach.  Sharky was returning to the zone he called home.  The FB-22s screamed in on the deck, sweeping snow off the tops of trees as they passed, jinking and jiving to throw off any AA guns that may have been missed.  2 miles away from the end of the runway, Sharky popped up to 1,000 feet while Taco broke off and aligned himself with the taxiways at the same altitude.  The weapons bay doors snapped open, and the first of the CBU-104s and CBU-106s fell free, the casings immediately splitting open and dispersing their payloads of anti-runway munitions.

Once the first set of bombs was gone, Sharky broke left, dumping flares and chaff as he set up for a second run to hit the other runway.

The Gs slammed into Riley and Chart as he hauled "The Crusader" through a tight turn, straining to lose the incoming missile. Fortunately, Rose read the situation properly and deployed the towed decoy while Riley began to pump off chaff and flares. Pushing the nose down, Riley followed the Raptors to the deck, the howling engines sending snow flying as he pushed to the target.

"Peaches, stick with it, follow lead so we can hit the target!"

Maxing out his throttle, Riley pushed to his release point, jinking back and forth like a madman to throw off the aim of any gunners on the ground. As he neared the access roads, Riley threw the F-02 into a climb.

"Bombs away!" he called hitting the pickle button. The CBU-104 WCMD tracked their programmed target. The access roads vanished under a shower of sparks as the mines littered the pavement. Selecting his SBDs, Riley maintained his climb, ensuring that the bombs would have some time to glide. About a mile out, Riley jammed the Wyvern into another turn and kicked the GBU-39s loose. The small winglets snapped out and dove into the fuel dump, detonating it in a ball of fire.

"Okay, we're clean, moving to engage the fighters."

    ***

    "Haukka 1-1 streaming." said Lahti

"Roger, dispensing chaff." said Karhila, thumbing the chaff button.

The big F/A-64s turned into each other and lit in their burners, trying to get above the CFA-44s, trailing brilliant showers of chaff. Snapping into level flight above the Nosferatu flight. Selecting AIM-120, Karhila selected the lead bandits and locked them using look down shoot down. Squeezing the trigger of the side joystick, the bottom bay snapped open, dispensing four of the six AMRAAMs stored below, two directed at each target.

    "Fox 3 ripple!" called Nahri.

The other Phantom also let loose a barrage of Slammers, speeding away, targeting the trailers.

In the midst of the chaos Hellhound broke into pairs, Hounds Three and Four lagging slightly behind and staying to their counterpart's left flank to release their JSOWs on a line of hangars and the terminal while the lead aircraft pushed up with their SDB's to bomb additional facilities and the control tower. Flashes from the decoy missiles lit the sky as the pilots navigated the airspace, keeping on the heads up that they would likely attract the attention of enemy fighters.

"Hounds, release your weapons on our first run, break off and attack from another angle. Don't be shy about dropping the hammer on the facilities, raze it to the ground."

    "Wilco."

    "Hellhound Three, I copy."

    "Roger."

With that said, Spikes and Otaku released their AGM-154's first, the weapons falling free and deploying their switchblade like wings as they glided to their final destination; with their first run over, Gisele and Victor broke off and swung around to hit from another angle, an errant decoy flash caught the younger Victor off guard and momentarily distracted him.

"Rgh. Decoys are all over hell around here."

"Concentrate Otaku, let your JSOW's loose and shift to covering the Boss and Nomad."

    "Understood. Hellhound Four, Rifle, Rifle!"

"Hellhound Three, Rifle One, Rifle One!"

Their final weapons detached from their aircraft, the single engine Taipans zipped to higher altitude and began to run escort for Naomi and Erich who were in the midst of their bombing runs. Naomi depressed the trigger on her control stick, calling out her shots as she banked left; the GBU-39's racing away from the diminutive fighter.

"Nomad, releasing stores. Coming back around for another run."

    "Hellhound One, Bombs off."

    Hunter Flight
    November 24, 2045 (Local Time: 2025)
    Central Nordlands

Malenoon's wingman felt his aircraft vibrate a little as the first few rounds from Annie's gun impacted He looked left in time to see her coming at him and turned into the attack. He was grossly out of position, even for an off-bore shot, but he could quickly move into safety before twisting back to aim himself at her.

"Hunter E2-2 will engage bandit at our three o' clock!" He called.

    "Roger, good luck." Malenoon grunted.

The Songolian stayed low and eased back the throttles as he worked to pursue Jed. To better his turn he pressed the right rudder pedal, almost drifting the big CFA. He readied his other AP-11 and tilted his head so his HMD could do the work.

"Hunter E2-1...Rapier!" He called after a second of waiting for a good shot.

On his radar, Malenoon saw the rest of Hunter was in a merge with about six jets. From his own fighter, Gordon ordered the formation to break and deploy chaff. In the next minute or so he learned who'd managed to get with the program. His number four made a bad turn and released too little chaff, too little to really give the AMRAAMs any challenge . Gordon saw a flicker of the explosion out of the corner of his right eye as he threw his fighter around, deploying chaff. He ended up far below the Nords; Gordon quickly got to work on that.

With three other fighters in his flight okay, Gordon rose up towards Haukka flight, another jet copying his move. The third jet ducked down low and went well below Haukka so she could come up from behind. She turned while Gordon and Hunter E1-2 fired two AP-13s each at Haukka's lead pair.

"Hunter Lead, Longbow Longbow!" He called.

Denied his first kill but undeterred, Hunter E2-3 turned to chase the FB-22s. His wingman ascended above and behind the second half of Serpent and then pulled his nose up, aiming it towards the as he pulled out and reduced the throttles. The pilot rolled right-side up and switched to his AP-11s. He launched one at Serpent 4.

    Centrum Korsing
    November 24, 2045 (Local Time: 2025)
    Central Nordlands

The first explosions were practically out of nowhere when Annie's bombs impacted. The two men in the woods watched as they impacted...on the light rail's tracks. It was odd, they both agreed, but they could also understand why/ The UN was trying to utterly trash the airport. Though none of the jets would know it, they'd likely hit the black boxes inside the airport's perimeter. Soon after, though, three more "Dazzlers" went up towards the dogfight. A third launched towards two shapes coming in low and fast.

    "Damn." The cameraman whistled.

"It's Osean, they always wave their dick around like this." The other shrugged.

Following his statement, the CBUs were dropped. They appeared, from this distance, as small black circles that then split apart. The two men watched from as the explosions from the bomblets. started to ripple across the field. The abandoned planes were swallowed up in the explosions as two large jets flew by, FB-22s they guessed. In near unison, a ball of fire atop a smokey pillar blossomed up from the fuel dump, sending a wave of heat across the two individuals.

    "Fuck!" the cameraman spat.

It became more or less a firepower demonstration to the two men. The explosions began to become so numerous that the two steadily pressed themselves to the ground and stayed low lest some errant part of the whole affair reach them and swallow the two up in it.

    KILLS FOR THIS ROUND

Skull 2-2 has destroyed the light rail terminals

Serpent 1 has destroyed one runway

Serpent 2 has destroyed three taxiways

Serpent 3 has destroyed three fuel tanks

Serpent 4 has destroyed three fuel tanks and the fueling station

Hellhound 1 has destroyed two hangars

Hellhound 2 has destroyed two hangars

Hellhound 3 has destroyed two hangars

Hellhound 4 has destroyed two hangars

    Haukka 1-1 has destroyed a CFA-44C

Annie turned inside the Erusean's attack, though at this range it was too close. She started bleeding speed to tighten her turn and readied an AIM-9. The Gs steadily pushed down on her frame as she turned, causing her to make throaty growls as she tensed and fought the forces to avoid blacking out. The truth was she felt a little alive herself today. Not as pumped up as Jed seemed to get but a sense of warrior's spirit rolled through her.

She came around on the Erusean's far right, about his four o' clock, and glared at the offended jet. The symbology on her HUD started to come together and when they met, she quickly depressed the launch button.

"Skull 2-2, Fox 2!" She reported.

In the meantime Jed thumbed more flares and broke left. He could feel the weight of his JDAMs slowing him; Jed started to contemplate dumping the bombs for his won survival. With how tight the mission was, it was likely he'd have to keep them on him.

"Skull 2-1 is engaged defensive and unable to hit control tower; can anyone engage the control tower?" He radioed nonetheless.

Free of the fight with Hunter E1, Prettyboy and Streetfighter kept up their dive, aiming for the fight their first section was tangled up in. They'd go after the CFA chasing Jed first, Prettyboy instructed; Annie had the other guy for now. Being the lower of the two, Streetfighter shifted into the lead position and started pulling up his nose to shoot an AIM-9 at the CFA after his flight lead. He descended to about a thousand feet above the chase and fired off a single AIM-9 as Jed started another 180-degree turn, this time back towards the airport.

"Skull 2-4, Fox 2." Streetfighter called.

"Thanks Street; Ah owe y'all." Jed replied.

With the blistering speed of their bomb run, the Dazzlers didn't have an appreciable effect on Serpents 1 and 2, detonating above and behind the low-flying FB-22s.  As Sharky lined up on the runway, Shady and Taco broke off to release a pair of GATOR canisters over the locations their AI said the dazzlers had launched from.

After the second half of their bombload was gone, Sharky broke right to disengage, his jet now several thousand pounds lighter.

Shady coordinated his exit turn to take him over the parking aprons of the airfield, liberally sprinkling his bombs on the wide expanses of concrete before breaking off to rejoin with Sharky.

Meanwhile, Peaches in Serpent 4 swore loudly and promptly broke right, dumping flares to spoof the AP-11 coming at her, grunting against the Gs.  As the AI announced that the missile was no factor, she kept the turn going, yanking the nose around to get a visual on the CFA-44 that had fired on her, taking advantage of the F-02's TVC to get that extra little bit of nose pointing ability.  The moment she heard the growl in her headset, she squeezed the fire button.  The intake-mounted bay doors snapped open and an AIM-9X shot off the rails towards Hunter E2-4.  "Serpent 4, Fox two!"  The missile gone, Peaches rolled onto her back and dove to regain the energy lost in her post-stall maneuvers.

"Warning, inbound bandit."  Cortana complained, a blinking red icon being highlighted on the tactical display.

"These fuckers don't know when to quit..."  Shamu growled.

"Serpent 1, reengaging.  2, cover us."

    "Copy."

Sharky snapped to the right, punching into afterburner to meet Hunter E2-3.  Getting a tone, he fired off an AIM-154 before breaking off once more.  Seeking to keep his boss covered, Shady also fired an Anaconda at the offending CFA-44.

    Hunter Flight
    November 24, 2045 (Local Time: 2026)
    Central Nordlands

Hunter E2-2's pilot deployed flares before looking around for the Sidewinder. He caught a glimpse of it as it came screaming in from almost directly behind. With a muted gasp of surprise he threw his plane to the right and worked the throttles to bring the missile outside his turn. The CFA floated in the commanded direction, followed by the AIM-9. the pilot started throwing his head back and forth with more vigor but couldn't find the missile. It was just inches away from his jet, having ignored the flares and being granted a close hot at the rear quarter of the Nosferatu. The pilot felt a jolt as the back half of his jet was shredded. The systems told him the jet had been mortally wounded and recommended ejection. The pilot didn't argue.

That left Captain Malenoon alone in his fight against four other jets. He detected the AIM-9 as it came off the rail and broke into the attack, deploying flares to foil Streetfighter's attack. It sent him into the same kind of turn as Jed. It cleared him of the AIM-9 but brought him close to Skull Lead. In fact, they were practically racing each other as they turned back towards the airport. Malenoon's jet went to the outside, and then due to his speed he found himself pushing out in front despite his pull back on the throttles. He then decided to accept the defensive and hit the gas. His jet shot forward with Jed's only a few dozen feet away at his five o' clock.

In the meantime Hunters E2-4 snapped towards Peaches and Speedy after she'd fired her missile and dove to get a gun shot as the Nosferatu went into minimal range for AP-11s. The AIM-9 fired at him and exploded some feet over the spine of the jet. Chunks of red-hot shrapnel  tore into the jet and left scratches and cuts. The pilot, now concerned as his systems started to blare at him, broke off the attack and snapped away from Serpent 4, heading up and away towards Erusean-controlled lands to the East. He was quietly thankful his engines hadn't been too badly damaged.

That left Hunter E2-3 on the attack as Serpent was banging up the parking aprons. As Serpent Lead turned and fired. He took the missiles one at a time, snapping right and then snaking wide of the bigger, heavier FB-22s, chaff marking his path across the sky. He ended up behind the two Strike Raptors, perpendicular to them. The pilot slowed to see if he could snap into them and get a tail shot, but quickly realized he wouldn't be able to. With that he went nose up to get above them and strike down; try and pin them between himself and the ground.

Gordon was starting to reappraise their situation. They were losing fighters fast and the UN forces were chewing up the airport almost unmolested. He took in a breath as he maneuvered to get another shot at the Nordic F/A-64s while his wingman covered him.

"Rave, Rave this is Hunter Lead. We need reinforcements, repeat need reinforcements. How far out is the forward CAP?" he demanded.

"Hunter, Siren Flight is two minutes out; say priority bandits." the AWACS replied.

"Priority bandits are the CAP, repeat the enemy CAP. Be advised the LZ is pretty banged up as well."

    "Roger, will relay."

Naomi and Erich's F-25's streaked in keeping their spacing as they made their approach on their target which was a few additional facilities near the main terminal. They would drop their SDB's and peel away from the target to join Gisele and Victor who were currently ahead of their present position six thousand feet above them. The Decoys continued their work as the two Taipan pilots deployed a cloud of chaff behind them as a precaution followed by releasing their weapons.

"Hellhound One, Bombs Off." Erich called, pulling up after his drop.

"Hellhound Two, Releasing Stores." The younger Shimo-Osean called shortly after Erich released, the remainder of her SDB's falling away from her aircraft with their wings deployed. Their run completed and air to ground stores expended the two F-25's now joined their counterparts and proceeded to assist their comrades.

"Hellhound Lead to Skull and Serpent flights, status. We are moving to assist at this time."

Jed flinched as Malenoon's fighter flew past. Instinctively he went for the weapons selection switch to try and shoot the guy, but he stopped himself as he closed in on his target. Instead he positioned himself to stay behind the Erusean jet and also below it. He looked at his displays and saw the JDAMs would go straight and true when he released them.

"Skull 2-1, bombs away!" He called.

The weapons fell away with little more than a soft thunk, freeing Jed to fight the jet swarming around him. He selected his GAU and broke right away from the tower. As e went up, he spotted Annie just before her jet slipped below his canopy rails.

"Skull 2-2, are y'all in position to engage the CFA at my ten high?" He called.

Annie looked back and spotted the CFA about the same time that Erich offered up his fighters. With Jed working on getting himself back into position, he was only able to get out his reply in broken grunts interrupted by the sounds of fighting Gs.

"Skull is engaged offensive...AWACS might have something. AWACS, Skull 2-2, bandit dope." Annie spoke up.

"Roger that Skull 2-2...we have multiple new bandits inbound. Heading 070 At 280 Miles, Angels 19. We count about eight." the E-9 watching over them radioed.

With that aired Annie turned towards Malenoon and readied her gun. She led him and pulled back the trigger, letting a stream of 25mm tracers reach out towards the Nosferatu. With the Erusean fighter covered, Streetfighter and Prettyboy pointed their noses towards the incoming bandits to help Hellhound.

Malenoon kept his head on his shoulders even as tracers from Annie's F-24 punched into his fighter. He turned into the attack and considered his options for a second. The most obvious choice was to bug out and call it a day. Survive and carry his experience onwards. A logical man, the Songolian-born pilot turned to exit the fight and head northeast towards Virkin, where he could divert if he needed to.

In the meantime Major Gordon was also feeling the same pull, but he wasn't giving up yet. They had reinforcements incoming...

    Guardian Flight

Two of the CFA-44s escorting the flight of T-2A Freighter (XC-01) transports stayed behind while the others went ahead to help Hunter Flight. Two of the jets went high and had their radars on to make noise and attract the attention of whatever UN fighters they could. In the meantime the other four fanned out and went to a medium altitude but kept their radars were off. They activated them when they were close to AP-13 range.

"Hunter Lead this is Guardian Lead, we are inbound from 045. Be heads up for contacts from that direction." Guardian E1-1 Radioed. Gordon's response was immediate.

"Roger that Guardian Lead...we will be withdrawing shortly."

    "He's going vertical, Sharky."

"Good," Sharky grunted.  The Erusian had made a mistake.  Sharky and Shamu thrived in the vertical.  It came from decades of flying fighters that called the vertical home.  Grunting, Sharky stood the FB-22 on its tails and rammed it into afterburner.  With the majority of its weapons gone and a partial fuel load, the massive strike jet managed to have a positive thrust-to-weight ratio.  Meaning it actually ACCELERATED skywards, screaming towards Hunter E2-3.  Sharky lined up the pipper in his HMD and triggered off a burst of guns just before shooting past the CFA, rolling out of the way and pulling back down to follow.

Annie turned and followed Malenoon to ensure he wasn't trying to flee. She  noted Jed's F-24 flash across one of her rearview mirrors, taking up position to support her. Deciding she didn't have time to switch to her AIM-9s, the Lensish pilot stuck to her GAU and fired another stream of bullets. She'd either chase the Erusean well away or take him down.

"Skull Lead, this is Skull 2-3...we've got eight new bandits approaching from 070. Moving to engage them." Prettyboy called.

"Roger that Prettboy, go get em." He radioed.

As he followed Annie, Jed felt a sudden feeling. The wonder where everyone else had gone. He heard a few radio transmissions but he'd been paying attention to his part of the fight and not crashing. The whole strike had more or less been scattered by the initial shock.

"Hellhound, Serpent, guys still up?" He asked. Better to just say it and get in trouble later than get distracted by the thought.

In the meantime Prettyboy and Streetfighter accelerated towards the newest flight of CFAs. Employing their E-HUDs' zoom function, they were able to ID that the bulk of the formation was going low. Nonetheless they'd shoot the ones transmitting, ones they could get a shot at. They'd need to get closer to take on the low birds.

"Hellhound, we'd appreciate it if you helped us pick off a few of these guys before they come rushing in." Prettyboy spoke up as he selected the CFA on the left.

His radar did its thing and locked up the bandit after several seconds of burning through the countermeasures. Prettyboy depressed his fire button twice and broke to the left in a climb.

    "Skull 2-3, Fox 3, Fox 3!"

    Hunter Flight
    November 24, 2045 (Local Time: 2028)
    Central Nordlands

Hunter E2-3 felt the hammer blows from the FB-22s cannon and then vibrations as the massive jet screamed past. His AI told him he'd been hit in the right engine and the skin around that. The pilot forced himself to concentrate and pulled out of his climb, nosing over, rolling, and aiming his nose towards the airport, which was now less a complex and more a bunch of ruins. The CFA started up to go over the fight around the facility and gain some altitude to conserve fuel.

Malenoon was on the same path, except Annie was all over him. He had to commend the ferocity of the Osean aircraft's pilot but that meant he was now going to have to eject. The next round of hits from 25mm bullets torn up his tailfins and chipped at his plane's belly. The AI said he was now rapidly losing hydraulic fluid, which would allow him to move his plane's control surfaces. The man immediately got to looking for a plce to eject, and chose the fields north of the airport. He quickly yanked his plane to the left and pulled back the throttles until he was practically gliding. With his aircraft unable to fully come out of the turn, he separated himself from it.

    "Hunter E2-1 is ejecting!"

Gordon heard the call and grimaced. Okay, it was time to get out and lick their wounds.

"Hunter Flight, disengage and head for Virikin! Guardian Flight, good luck!" He called.

    Guardian Flight
    November 24, 2045 (Local Time: 2028)
    Central Nordlands

"Thank you, Hunter..." Guardian's Lead pilot radioed. He was unable to get out a "good luck" under the strain of Gs.

It had been a punitive greeting, but nonetheless it was an attack on them. Guardian's aircraft that were coming in low had little to worry about as they turned on their radars to engage Hellhound. Guardian's lead plane deployed chaff and broke from his wingman and went up, then nosed over with increasing speed before screaming to the right, deploying more chaff. He then snapped back to the right and headed for Skull's second pair, free of the AMRAAMs fired at him. In the meantime four of the lower aircraft targeted Hellhound flight. Each jet fired two AP-13s their way and then split into pairs to bracket the fourship.

Bracing against the Gs as Sharky pulled Night Witch through an invert to keep on the CFA, Shamu grunted, "Little busy, kid!"

Taking advantage of his superior altitude, Sharky pulled in behind and above the wounded CFA-44.  Tracking the nose, he set the pipper on the delta-winged fighter, and fired another burst.

"Hellhound is up, engaging hostiles." Naomi radioed to Jed in reply while Erich acknowledged Prettyboy with, "Hellhound copies." This confirmation was backed up by Hellhound three firing a single AMRAAM at one of the incoming fighters followed by Victor who also committed one of his own missiles to the attack. Eirch and Naomi then called their shots and fired on a pair of CFA-44's.

    "Hellhound One, Fox Three."

    "Hellhound Two, Fox Three."

Just as the four Osean fighters loosed their missiles, a number of AP-13's were fired by the incoming formation that they had targeted. Naomi and the rest of Hellhound flight dispersed chaff and went into a series of evasive maneuvers to give the projectiles the slip.

"Yet another even exchange, can't catch a break up here." Victor grunted to himself during his maneuvers.

Free of Malenoon and free of his JDAMs, Jed turned to the left, where he'd last seen Serpent.

"Skull 2-2, with me!" He called.

"On my way, Lead." Annie assured. She yanked her plane to the left while Jed went straight and level just long enough to let her get back into a loose two-ship quickly.

"Serpent this is Skull Lead, y'all need assistance?" Jed called, slightly concerned when he'd heard Shamu simply reply with "Little busy, kid!".

In the meantime Prettyboy and Streetfighter took advantage of the shooting to close in on the lower four CFAs. They split and turned nearly 180 degrees to follow after the two pairs moving to bracket Hellhound.

"Hellhound, Skull 2-3 and 2-4 are engaging the lower pairs of bandits; be heads up." Prettyboy called.

He and Streetfighter ran a fairly similar strategy for the two pairs. They each closed from behind rapidly and fired a single AIM-9X each before snapping to the outside of the bracket's twp parts and trailing flares as a precaution.

    "Skull 2-3, Fox 2."

    "Skull 2-4, Fox 2!"

    Hunter Flight
    November 24, 2045 (Local Time: 2029)
    Central Nordlands

As the first few tracers flew by, Hunter E2-3 broke from his current path, but not fast enough. Several more hammer-like blows landed as he broke, puncturing the CFA along the right wing. At the high speed and in such a violent move, the jet started to shake at an increasing intensity. The jet faltered from its smooth flight path and nosed down into a descending spiral towards the ground. The pilot was too low to eject properly. That left Major Gordon and his wingman as the only two pilots in Hunter Flight who'd escaped.

    Guardian Flight
    November 24, 2045 (Local Time: 2029)
    Central Nordlands

Guardian E1-1 and E1-2 had been turning back towards the F-25s after dodging the first salvo when the second AMRAAMs came rushing in. The Erusean pilot deployed more chaff as he broke to the right and started to maneuver. He was turning back to the left when he saw the missile almost right next to him. In the next second it exploded and ripped up his left tailfin. The jet dipped down left and started to roll. This pilot ejected before his plane could turn upside down. Hellhound Lead had scored.

Naomi had, too. She managed to catch Hunter E1-2 as he was breaking, trying to use maneuvers at first to avoid the AIM-120. It struck the jet almost dead center against the top of the fuselage. The jet disappeared in a fireball, but the pilot came sailing through the growing inferno, escaping death. In the meantime the rest of Guardian Flight was scattering all over the sky, deploying flares and making sudden maneuvers. In the chaos, Streetfighter's AIM-9 struck a CFA in the tail. With that, the rest of Guardian Flight was pushed forward to try and shoo away the UN aircraft.

    Chariot Fight
    November 24, 2045 (Local Time: 2029)
    Central Nordlands

Six XC-01s, locally designated the T-2A Freighter, cruised along, spread into pairs and moving on paths that would take them right over the LZs the paratroopers and Saber APCs within would launch their seizure of the airport from. Plans had to be delayed because of the attacks, though; their forwardmost scouts who'd been watching the airport had gotten it up the chain that the place was burning and it also appeared mines had been deployed. They'd likely have to put their engineers at the front of their advance.

With the LZs five minutes out, the men inside the transports swung into action. individual soldiers stood up and began equipment checks, looking over all their gear one last time before they jumped into the cold night. They were all bundled up especially warm tonight and all using oxygen masks for the high-altitude drop. All in all, nearly a battalion would be deployed around the airport with the intention of seizing it and making the place a forward airbase, namely for attack aircraft and helos. The men and gear to clear the way would arrive later in C-17s. Aboard their M-89s, crewmen strapped in and waited while their machines were tended to for the parachute drops. Dropping an APC out of the back of the plane was no easy feat.

Sharky rolled out, watching the CFA spiral to earth.  One less to worry about.

Meanwhile, Shamu finally had the chance to reply to Jed, now that he wasn't dancing about around the cockpit from Sharky's maneuvering.  "We're fine, kid.  Serpent 1 is clear."

"All Serpents, form up.  Job's done, let's get moving."

"Two," Taco transmitted as he formed up on Sharky's wing.

"All aircraft be heads up, enemy forces are rolling in on the AO. All aircraft disengage and RTB." AWACS radioed as it tracked the incoming force of Erusean paras and their support.

Jed, having taken Annie and turned away from Serpent, acknowledged and pointed his nose towards the second half of his flight.

"Prettyboy, Streetfighter, we're inbound from yer twelve. Time to get outta dodge. We'll shoot at the extra bandits to give yah space to flee." Jed radioed.

    "Skull 2-3 Roger."

    "Skull 2-4 Roger."

"Tsun-Tsun, take the bandits to the left; Ah've got the right."

    "Roger that."

The two F-24s only had two AMRAAMs each, but in Jed's mind it was enough to stir up the Erusean CFAs coming to the fight. They made their approach from the incoming bandits' eleven high. Each pilot selected two bandits to engage with a "slapshot". Jed didn't wait after his system got lock and instead fired both his AMRAAMs as soon as he had targets. If they hit something great; otherwise he wanted Streetfighter and Prettyboy a chance to get to safety.

"Skull 2-1, Fox 3...Fox 3!" Jed called, he dropped flares, then chaff as he broke left.

"Skull 2-2, Fox 3 Fox 3!" Annie added, moving into a lag pursuit behind her lead.

At the same time, Streetfighter and Prettyboy broke from the pursuit of the CFAs they'd been after while the reinforcements were under fire by Jed and Annie and the ones they were after were running and on the defensive. Each pilot got low and got fast, pushing along the hilly terrain in hops of hiding until they got far out enough.

Snapping the nose of the Wyvern around, Riley noted several explosions dotting the sky. Bumping up the throttle, he noted the two climbing CFA-44s, clawing for altitude against the Nordic fighters. Selecting his AIM-154s, he ensured that they were set to air to air and swiftly locked onto the both. Feeding data to the Anacondas, he gently squeezed the trigger. The AIM-154s kicked loose of their dark holding pens, After a second, the motors kicked in and the missiles rapidly accelertated towads the climbing Nosferatus.

"Serpent 3, Fox 3, Fox 3!" he cried. Pouring on the throttle, he accelerated towards the fight.

"Break, break!" called Nahri, jamming the Phantom into a roll and pulling for the deck. Pumping out flares and chaff, he prayed that the towed decoy would do its job, luring away the chasing missiles.

"Shit, there's one below us!" yelled Haukka 2.

Nahri's eyes went wide, his instincts kicking in. Selecting an AIM-120, he didn't even bother selecting the target. The AMRAAM dropped free and rocketed away. Straight down the axis of the climbing CFA-44.

"Pitbull!" He yelled. Jamming the throttle full forward, he rolled the heavy fighter to the right, dumping yet more chaff.
